You can remove Thule roof bars from your car, truck or SUV in a matter of minutes. Thule mounting frame systems are attached to the roof of your vehicle with a compression clamp system. Due to this simple design, removing the grill is almost effortless. Simply loosen both feet and lift your Thule roof rack off the roof of your vehicle for storage or move it to another vehicle.
Step 1: thule roof bars
Open the doors on both sides of the vehicle below where the roof rack is mounted.
Step 2: how to remove roof rails
Unlock the outer shell or the lockable knob at the base of the feet with the Thule key that came with the kit. Remove the plastic plugs covering the locks with a flat-head screwdriver. Some Thule roof rack systems do not have locks or come with keys.
Step 3: thule roof bars
Turn the foot knob counterclockwise to loosen the clamp. Some Thule models require a special tool called AcuTight to loosen the clamp. This tool is housed within the foot housing and has a bright green handle.
Step 4: thule roof rack
Reach across the ceiling to lift the bar from the center and set it aside. Check the roof of the car to make sure the rubber pads have not stuck to the roof. Peel off the pads by sliding a credit card under them while pulling up.
Step 5: thule roof racks
Clean debris buildup from areas where the roof rails were removed with a mild car wash detergent and a soft sponge. Remove the roof rails from the feet apart by removing their end caps and sliding them out. Some Thule roof rack mounting legs have a small black lever on the back that you must lift to release the bar.
