Vehicle side mirrors are often powered by electricity. If the side rearview mirror housing is cracked or broken, it will need to be replaced. You can easily fix it yourself if you don’t want to pay for the repair at a dealer. However, you will need to obtain a replacement side mirror for your vehicle model.
Step 1: repair electric rearview mirror
Open the door on the side of the vehicle where the rear view mirror is located. This can be the driver’s-side or passenger-side mirror.
Step 2: how to repair an electric rear view mirror
Pry the trim panel in the upper left or right corner of the door. Remove the trim panel with the flat blade screwdriver. Remove the trim panel and set it aside.
Step 3: how to repair side rearview mirror
Locate the screws that are used to secure the mirror to the door. Remove the screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the side rear view mirror from the door and set it aside.
Step 4: electric side mirror repair
Disconnect the electrical connector from the mirror and then connect it to the new mirror.
Step 5: electric mirror repair
Put the new side view mirror in place and tighten the screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Start the vehicle to verify that the mirror is working properly. Replace the trim panel on the door. Press the trim panel until you hear it snap into place.

- A door panel removal tool can be purchased if you don’t want to use a flat-head screwdriver.
