You can reset the computer in your Chrysler Town & Country minivan in your garage, saving yourself a trip to the mechanic or dealer. When an indicator illuminates in the vehicle’s instrument cluster, an error code has been sent to the on-board diagnostic computer, or OBD, from a sensor. Error codes are used to diagnose problems with the Chrysler. You can reset the error codes using an OBD scan tool. This little computerized device can be purchased online or at any auto parts retailer. Make sure to restart the computer only after you have finished repairing or repairing the car or you may risk damaging the computer.
Locate the OBD port, which is the same size and shape as the connection end of the scan tool; The port can be found at the bottom of the dash on the driver’s side next to the steering column.
Plug the scan tool into the port. Place the key in the ignition and turn it to the “On” position, being careful not to start the engine. This will turn on most of the scan tools; if not, locate the tool’s on / off switch and turn it on.
Wait for the scan tool to retrieve the codes. Find the command “Delete Codes” or “Delete Codes” and select it. Wait for the tool to clear all the codes.
Unplug the scan tool and start the engine. Verify that all the lights have gone out on the instrument panel.
- Many auto parts stores loan scan tools so customers can read and erase error codes.
