KTM boss Stefan Pierer has confirmed that the manufacturer is working on a range of 500cc naked and adventure bikes for 2021 and 2022!
According to VisorDown, in an interview, KTM boss Stefan Pierer has confirmed that the manufacturer is substituting the development of its new 500cc platform to production partner Bajaj. In addition to this, Pier also admits that the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak is the reason why Bajaj will take care of the new project.
Although Bajaj will handle the project, KTM will manage the development of the new 500cc project at the Bajaj R&D Center in Pune. On the engineering side, Pier also mentioned that KTM’s R&D team would handle design, development and testing.
Specifications and details
Stefan claims that the new segment would be powered by a 500cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine. Yes, another parallel twin engine from the KTM lineup alongside the 790 and 890. KTM generally combines the engine with a different frame to implement it with different bikes. So with the new project, as confirmed, KTM would bring out nude and adventure models.
However, we can also expect a sports bike. As for the new engine; We expect it to hit 60hp, so let’s wait for KTM to present all the specs and details. As for the frame; KTM is more likely to present a brand new frame as current frames are either too big or too small. In addition to this, KTM would probably go with the nomenclature “90”; which means that the new segment would be called the 490 Duke, 490 Adventure or 460 RC. In the event of the launch, the new 490 platform bikes are scheduled to launch in 2021 and 2022. Could the KTM 490 line be the next best KTM bike for beginners?
