The cylinder head is made of aluminum alloy, which gives it good cooling efficiency. The engine is a double head camshaft design with four valves per cylinder. The M16A engine used a variable valve timing (VVT) system on the intake camshaft. The intake valves are 37.0 mm (1.4567 in) in diameter and the exhaust valves are 25.0 mm (0.9843 in).
