the Toyota 2TR-FE is a 2.7 L (2,693 cc, 164.34 cu in) inline four-stroke naturally aspirated gasoline engine from the Toyota TR family. The 2TR-FE engine was manufactured at the Kamigo and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia plant.
The 2TR-FE engine features a cast iron deep skirt cylinder block and an aluminum cylinder head with two overhead camshafts (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder (16 total). The Toyota 2TR-FE engine used a multi-point fuel injection system, VVT-i (variable valve timing with intelligence) or dual VVT-i from 2015 and DIS (direct ignition system) without distributor, with individual ignition coil for each spark plug.

The 2TR-FE has a cast iron deep skirt cylinder block. A cylinder bore of 95.0 mm (3.74 in) and a piston stroke of 95.0 mm (3.74 in) give the 2TR-FE engine a total of 2,693 cc of displacement. The compression ratio rating is 9.6: 1 or 10.2: 1. The 2TR-FE is equipped with twin counter-rotating balance shafts within the crankcase to cancel secondary inertia forces.
The 2TR-FE engine used a fully balanced crankshaft with roll finished pins and journals. To reduce noise, vibration and harshness, the crankshaft pulley used a rubber torsional damper. Heavy duty connecting rods have plastic region tightening head bolts. The engine is equipped with aluminum alloy pistons with two compression and oil control rings. The top compression ring has a physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating for wear resistance and the second piston ring is chrome plated.
