Doom Eternal will headline QuakeCon 2019 as Bethesda teases a new game ahead of launch later this year. In this guide that covers everything we know about the Doom sequel so far, we’ll go over the Doom Eternal release date, everything new Doom Eternal QuakeCon details and more.
Doom Eternal release date
Doom Eternal has been delayed. Instead of launching in November 2019, it will now launch on March 20, 2020.
Doom Eternal QuakeCon 2019
Bethesda will debut new gameplay footage from QuakeCon 2019’s Doom Eternal. You can tune in to the presentation by following the tweet below, and you may even have a chance to win some loot for other Bethesda games if your Bethesda.net account is linked to their Twitch account.
Doom Eternal Collector’s Edition
Just below, you can see the Doom Eternal Collector’s Edition. This comes with the game, a wearable Slayer helmet, a pass for both DLC expansions, 2 digital soundtracks, a lithograph, and a history book.
Doom Eternal E3 2019
In the live stream below from Bethesda, you can watch id Software’s Doom Eternal E3 2019 presentation. Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin of id Software took the stage to detail the new presentation of the game, in which Doom Eternal sees Earth consumed by hell. We are going to travel to both heaven and hell in the sequel.
It certainly looks like crossover will play a big role in Doom Eternal. In the previous presentation, we see the Doomguy moving through the air, with power-ups that restore the charge of the board.
Doom’s Eternal Battle Mode
At E3 2019, Bethesda revealed BattleMode for Doom Eternal. This multiplayer mode has two demonic players working against one person playing as Doomguy.
As demons, the two players can play with a variety of demonic creatures, including Imps and Reborn. Demonic players can revive someone, so it really will be a battle of teamwork and strategy, versus sheer skill in Doom Eternal’s battle mode.
Doom Eternal DLC
It was a low-key reveal from Bethesda, but there will be two DLC packs for Doom Eternal. There were only multiplayer DLC packs for Doom in 2016, but there will be two single-player DLC packs for Doom Eternal within the first year of the game’s release.
Currently, there is no information on the price of the Doom Eternal DLC. You will have access to both DLC packs if you purchase the Digital Deluxe or the Collector’s Edition of Doom Eternal. We will update this section when there is a separate price for the two DLC packs.
Doom Eternal gameplay
Just below, you can see footage from the debut Doom Eternal game, which first appeared during QuakeCon 2018. We can see DoomGuy fighting his way through hordes of demons that have invaded Earth, all with a new dask ability, as well as some a kind of hook attached to the shotgun, which allows him to grab onto demons from afar and push himself towards them, before shooting them in the face with a weapon of his choice.
The whole Doom Eternal part of the game looks pretty awesome. It’s clear that id is making this a more upright and quicker game, with the new hook and running ability. There are also a host of new monsters featured in the images above, which should liven up the lethal combat even more.
There was a lot to be gleaned from the reveal of the Doom Eternal game. We have compiled all the key information in the following list.
- There will be a Dark Souls invasion-style PvP mode, where players can play as demons in each other’s games.
- This time around, a more expansive narrative will be available, focusing on Doom Slayer.
- The “Meat Hook” is a new accessory for the shotgun. It is a kind of grappling hook that can only be attached to enemies.
- Doom Eternal will not have the SnapMap tools used in the first game.
- There will be post-launch DLC focused on the narrative.
Monsters and demons of Doom Eternal
At first, you might think we don’t see much in the brief Doom Eternal teaser that Bethesda showed at E3 2018. Hugo Martin of id Software promised “Hell on Earth” (with a wry smile) on stage, revealing that the Game events would take place on local territory, and not on Mars as they did in the 2016 Doom reboot.
But what else can we see in the teaser? For starters, the Cacodemon now has arms, and Martin also revealed that there would be twice as many demons in Demon Eternal as there were in the rebooting game. We can also see imps, hellish demons, and spider demons in the trailer, so we can definitely look forward to taking on the horde when Doom Eternal launches.
Finally, both Doomguy’s shotgun and composer Mick Gordon will return for the sequel. Hugo Martin also joked that “we are very excited to show you some of the things you may not expect.” Is Doomguy going to have an affair with a demon?
Doom Eternal Nintendo Switch
After the QuakeCon presentation concluded, it was revealed that the new Doom is coming to Nintendo Switch. This isn’t a huge surprise, given that the first game moved to the Nintendo Switch after launch, although it’s great that plans are already in place this time.
Right now, these are all the details we’ve managed to gather about Doom Eternal. In the future, we will keep this guide fully up to date, so you will have a complete information hub for the game whenever Bethesda or id Software announces something official.
