You’ve heard of the grandmother who plays Skyrim, but have you heard of the grandmother from Animal Crossing who became famous for her impressive playtime? Well now it looks like she’s being recognized in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as eagle-eyed fans have discovered a new character that seems to have been named in her honor.
Last year, 87-year-old Audrey went viral on Twitter after her grandson tweeted a photo of her impressive 3,580 hours of play on Animal Crossing: New Leaf, a number that has probably only grown even further. He had played almost every day to get his city to that point, with only a couple of days off due to illness.
My 87 year old grandmother has played Animal Crossing New Leaf on her 3DS every day for the last 4 years.
His 3DS finally broke this year, so we bought him a new one for Christmas. During a system transfer, I checked its activity log: pic.twitter.com/R33KycrW4q

At the time, his grandson Paul Hubans (who is also a game designer) said she would “Hopefully” getting Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Switch, promising to “sell more copies of my game and save for it.” I hope it has been saving as it looks like Audrey has been commemorated with a new villager name. As seen by koolwala on Reddit, the screenshots from the Nintendo World review show that New Horizons has a new character named Audie, a wolf with a cute pair of sunglasses and spectacular winged eyeliner. Her name is significant, as Audie is the username Audrey uses when playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
While it is not 100% confirmed, Audie is a rather unusual name, so it seems unlikely that it is a coincidence. And since Skyrim’s grandmother managed to become an Elder Scrolls 6 NPC thanks to a fan request, now seems like a good time to be a gaming grandmother.
