all the news, compatible mobiles and how to update to the new version of Android

27 mayo, 2021

On March 13, Google launched the first beta of Android Q and after six betas that have shown us the news of the new Google operating system, today we already have the official website and images of the Android 10 system. Unlike previous versions , Android Q has no dessert, it is simply Android 10. No news on the front, The Google Pixel will be among the first lucky ones to receive this new version, while the rest of the devices will have to wait for the corresponding manufacturer to update the system.

Android 10 represents an important change compared to Android 9 Pie, especially in relation to the new gesture control, the dark theme that is finally implemented in the depth of the UI, and a new permission management (quite similar to iOS) that will allow us to keep applications at bay.

A new version that gives us the Android we deserve

Android 9.0 Pie brought stability, good energy management and, in general, a good user experience in most of the customization layers (many of them took advantage of the jump to ‘pass the broom’ and make their ROMs something cleaner ). With Android 10 the essence of Android 9.0 Pie is maintained, but those points that began to cry out for improvements are improved.

There are several novelties that come from the hand of Android 10 divided into several blocks. Starting with the accessibility, functions such as Live Caption (to subtitle in real time), Live Transcribe and Sound Amplifier have been implemented, which serves to customize the volume according to the frequencies of the ambient sound.

We thoroughly compare the layers of Android customization: this is the software of Samsung, Huawei, LG, Xiaomi, Google and more

Regarding the photographic section, support has been added for saving photos in .heic format, a new format for portrait photos that allows you to modify the blur afterwards, native support for monochrome cameras and some other privacy improvements, especially in terms of permissions.

Digital Wellbeing It has also received news, such as timers for websites (the same as for applications, but for web pages) and Focus Mode, a system to temporarily block access to applications that consume us the most time. They add up adaptive battery performance improvements, which, as we already know, uses machine learning to predict which applications we use the least to prevent them from consuming resources.

As to sharing and messaging options, 65 new emojis have been added (including gender-neutral emoticons), a WiFi sharing option with QR codes, and suggested actions in notifications. The latter is interesting, since the operating system will suggest responses and actions for all notifications from messaging apps.

The new gestural system of Android 10 is one of its great novelties and yes, it drinks from iOS and its system implemented from the iPhone X

The semi-gestural system has also been improved, and is that Google opted for a hybrid between gestures and virtual keypad that did not quite work like other proposals, such as MIUI, One UI or, of course, iOS 12. The new gestural system of Android 10 drink directly from iOS, the best solution available (if you can’t with the enemy …). Speaking of usability, a dirt detection system has also been implemented in the USB ports and a priority system for notifications.

Dark mode This is what dark mode looks like in Android 10.

In the same way, the complete dark theme that the Pixels did not have (in Pie only the application drawer and notification bar were themed) finally reaches this stable version, wearing the system of a pure black which will help save energy in the case of devices with OLED panel. And now that we mentioned elements built into the operating system, Android Auto now comes pre-installed.

Android 10 puts the focus on privacy with features like downloading security patches from Google Play

We finish by reviewing the news related to privacy and security, and that is that Android 10 puts the focus in this section with several implementations. The most prominent is that security patches will be deployed directly from Google Play, which will allow them to be received sooner. But it is not the only one, since Android 10 will also allow us to configure the access to the location only when we use the app (before it was or always or never)

How to Install Android 10

To update the Pixel (the only devices that will receive the OTA in the next few hours), we just have to go to System – Updates and check if there are any updates available. However, in the next few hours, factory images and OTA files should be uploaded. As for manual OTAs, this is the process to follow.

  • We download the OTA file corresponding to our device and save it without decompressing within the same folder of the ADB.
  • We connect the device to the computer and in a command window we execute: adb reboot recovery. When the Android logo with the red exclamation appears on the device, press Volume up + Power at the same time.
  • Using the volume keys we select apply update from adb and enter with the Power key.
  • We write the adb sideload instruction from the command window of our computer.
  • When the update is finished installing, we only have to restart the selected device Reboot the system now. This process will leave the device updated respecting our data.
