What we are experiencing these days with the coronavirus is something almost unheard of, and little by little the governments of most countries have been taking measures to try to avoid contagion among citizens.
Interestingly, many people believe that these measures are being inefficient, and movements like #YoMeQuedoEnCasa are a good example of this. In these moments of “confinement”, Internet is a good ally to feel less isolated, and today we are going to recommend some ways to be able to view content from a distance with your loved ones.
They integrate text or voice chat to make comments in real time
A few years ago we talked about Rabbit, a tool that allowed us to watch content with our friends even if they are not in the same room with us. And I say “allowed”, because the company was bought in the middle of last year by Kast.
Kast has applications for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. In addition to being able to share content in real time, this tool has an integrated chat (voice and text).
Netflix Party is ua free extension for Google Chrome that allows us to automatically synchronize the playback of a series or movie on Netflix. It is very easy to install and use, and it also includes a group chat.
Once we have installed it, we will simply have to log into our Netflix account in the browser and select the content that we want to play. To the click on the “NP” icon to create a “party” and invite our friends using a URL.
Watch2Gether is another popular tool for view synced media content with your friends. An interesting point is that it allows us to create a free chat room without the need to be registered.
Once we have created the chat room, we can already invite other people so that they can see the content we are playing (which can come from YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Facebook or Amazon).
One point to note about Watch2Gether is that all users who are participating in the chat room can search for videos and start playing them for the rest.
Create your own virtual movie theater, choose your seat and invite your friends
Andchill is one of the ones I liked the most. You do not need to register to create a room, and the first thing you will have to do is choose a place where you want to sit in this virtual cinema.
We can invite more people to “our cinema”, where it is possible project YouTube or Twitch videos (You can create a playlist and order them). At the bottom we will find a text and audio chat.
In addition to watching videos together, these are times when it is good to be in solidarity. A few days ago we talked about DoNotPay, an application that allows us to share our subscriptions for streaming services with acquaintances without having to reveal our password.
