Google Chrome: how to block web pages

21 mayo, 2021

Google Chrome is still one of the most used browsers in the world. Despite its constant updates, natively, the browser still does not allow the web page blocking, to prevent access to any address that we have selected.

Therefore, we can use third-party tools to carry out this process, so it is necessary to explain how they work and from where we can download them. In the same way, despite the limitations of Chrome, we will teach you how to block part of the content of the web from the browser itself.

Block pages in Google Chrome with BlockSite

BlockSite is one of the simplest and most capable Chrome extensions on the Chrome Store. The operation is as simple as downloading it and adding the URL that we want to block in your list.

BlockSite allows us to block web pages by URL, words, time periods, and so on. Its operation is not only as a blocker, but it is aimed at making us more productive

Similarly, we can go further, blocking pages for words, requiring a password to enter websites (a more than useful function for work applications), adding a work mode to block web pages and not distract us for periods of time (pomodoro method by default), etc.

Block web pages from Google Chrome

Block From Chrome

Although we cannot block a web page as such from Google Chrome, we can try to block access to some of its content. To do this, we go to the Settings menu, and we follow the steps that we are going to show you below.

  • Click on the ‘Advanced Settings’ drop-down menu
  • Click on ‘Privacy and security’
  • Click on ‘Content Settings’
  • Block ‘Images’ and ‘JavaScript’

Through this method, we tell the browser not to load the page by restricting JavaScript and downloading its images. In the same way, we can block access to microphone, motion sensors, video and others, with the aim of having more control over the permissions to which the web accesses.

Block addresses so you don’t see them again

“Eyes that do not see …” Although we have seen tools to block web pages in Google Chrome, we end this article with a somewhat different extension, which allows us to block URLs so that they do not appear again in search results. It is not a website blocking as such, as we can continue to access the pages, but they will not be shown on Google again.

The operation is as simple as installing the extension and, once we are on the web page whose search result we want to block, click on ‘block’. Once we do this, we will not see the page again in Google search results.
