Google has launched a new extension for Chrome called Link to Text Fragment, that is: link to a piece of text. It is a simple tool to do just that by creating a link to a specific text within any website.
This is especially useful when we want share and highlight a special segment of something we read on a website, either through messages, email, or social networks and that when the person clicks go directly to that line or paragraph.
How to link to a piece of text on a website
- Install the extension in Chrome or any Chromium-based browser like Microsoft Edge, Opera, Vivaldi or Brave from this link
- Navigate to the section of text that you are interested in sharing on a page and select it as you normally would and then right click on the text
- Now you will see a new option in the drop-down menu that says “Copy link to selected text“:

When you do, the text will be highlighted in yellow for a few seconds and your link will be automatically copied to the clipboard. This means that by right clicking and choosing “Paste” or pressing CTRL + V within anywhere you want to share, you should get a link similar to this one.
When someone uses your link to access the site, they will automatically go to the section where the text you selected appears and also see it highlighted as in the image above.
