How to get Rotom with Pokémon Go

Rotom was first released in Pokémon Go as part of Go Fest 2020, and thankfully it can be captured from the luxury of your own home on Day 1 and Day 2 of the event – appropriate for a Pokémon that takes the form of household appliances.

First, make sure you have a ticket for Pokémon Go Fest 2020and wait for the event to start at 10 am local time. This is necessary for Rotom to appear in your game.


From there, you need to catch Rotom in an Instant Photo Bomb. This is how other rare Pokémon, like Smeargle, have appeared in the game, so they may already be familiar to you.

If not, these are the steps to catch Rotom in Pokémon Go:

  1. Open Snapshot mode with any Pokémon of your choice.
  2. Take photos of the Pokémon (turn off AR + to make this step easier!)
  3. Exit Snapshot mode, where you review the images you just took.
  4. At this point, Rotom may appear in one of your photos.
  5. If Rotom appears, it will appear in the wild on the map screen, to be captured like any other Pokémon.
  6. If Rotom does not appear, repeat the steps above
