How to install an icon pack on your Android mobile

Now that every week we meet icon packs which are free for a limited time, the time has come for you to try once and for all one of the most effective ways to refresh your mobile interface.

For better or for worse, the icons on Android are anything but homogeneous. Some are round, others square, others have more or less rounded corners, others are smaller than normal, others are triangular … If you want to put some order, you will always have install an icon pack.

It depends on your launcher

This is one of those cases where I can’t give you the absolute, step-by-step answer that works for every Android phone out there. Although support for icon packs has improved a lot over the past few years, it is still a mostly launcher-dependent feature. In summary, you need a launcher that allows you to change the icons.

This does not mean that you have to immediately go to Google Play and download a launcher like Nova Launcher (which maybe you should anyway, because it is very good), because eThe pre-installed launcher may include it. To check, go to the launcher settings (usually a long press on the Desktop and look for icon options.

If you’re unlucky, the easiest way to use an icon pack is to change your launcher. There are a lot of great launchers out there, and most of them include support for icon packs.

We are going to give you the instructions in the 5 most important ones. In all cases, you must download and install the icon pack you are interested in prior to the steps described below.

In Nova Launcher

It is one of the most popular launchers of all time and, of course, it has support for icon packs. All you have to do is:

  • Long press to go to Nova Settings.
  • Tap on Appearance.
  • Tap on Icon theme.
  • Choose from the icon packs installed on the system.

In Action Launcher

Another of the most popular Android launchers is Action Launcher and, of course, it includes support for icon packs for a long time. Changing icons is as simple as:

  • Long press to access the Settings.
  • Go to Screen.
  • Touch Icon pack.
  • Choose from the icon packs installed on the system.

In Aviate

The curious launcher of Yahoo! organizes your applications automatically and also allows you to customize your icons through a pack downloaded from Google Play. The steps are the following:

  • Long press to go to the Settings.
  • Tap on Define Icon Pack.
  • Choose from the packages installed on the system.

In Apex Launcher

Apex Launcher is getting older and is not what it used to be, but it is still a good option, especially for somewhat older terminals. Although it hasn’t been updated since 2015, it includes support for icon packs.

  • Tap on Apex Configuration.
  • Tap on Theme Settings.
  • Choose the theme (icon pack) that interests you.
  • Press Apply.

In Smart launcher

To finish our review, which should be enough for you to extrapolate the steps for many other launchers out there, these are the steps to follow if your header launcher is Smart Launcher.

  • Long touch and choose Setting.
  • Enter the section Theme.
  • Choose the icon pack that interests you from the installed ones.

As you can see, the process is quite simple and basically involves going to the launcher settings and looking for the relevant option to change the icons, sometimes under the name “theme”.
