For a couple of years, devices with Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher show notifications on lock screen By default, so that as soon as you turn on the screen of your device you can see if you have new messages and notices from your favorite applications.
This has a great privacy issue, since if someone in our environment picks up our mobile, they will be able to see our messages without reading just by turning on the screen, no matter how much we have the device locked and protected with a pattern, fingerprint, PIN or password. Luckily this has a solution.
Hide all sensitive notifications with device locked
Our Android device allows us hide notifications on lock screen offering us two options:
- Don’t show notifications: It doesn’t directly show the notification on the lock screen.
- Hide sensitive notifications: Show the notification but removing the images and messages to protect our privacy. The notification will only show us that we have new messages.
On Android 11 and Android Android 10
If our device is updated to Android 11 or Android 10 to be able to manage the lock screen notifications we have to go access Settings> Apps and notifications> Notifications.
To prevent a notification from showing the sensitive content of a private message, we just have to deactivate the option Sensitive notifications. With this option we will see that we have a notification but the content of your message will not be seen.
If, on the other hand, we do not even want the notification to be displayed then we have to click on Notifications on the lock screen and select “Hide silent conversations and notifications If we only want the conversations notifications to not appear, or activate the option “Do not show any notifications” if we want to always have the lock screen clean of notifications.
On Android 9 and Android 8.0
If we still have Android 9 or Android 8.0 on our device, the options change slightly. Its configuration is also found in Settings> Apps and notifications> Notifications, but now we only find only the option “On the lock screen”. There we can choose to see the content of all notifications, hide sensitive content, or not showing notifications on the lock screen.
With Android 8.0 can also hide only some sensitive notifications, that is, select in which applications we only want the text of your notifications to not be displayed. To do this, we just have to follow these steps:
- Hate Settings and notifications.
- Select an application.
- Select a notification category.
- Press On the lock screen.
- Select the desired option.
In this way, notifications and messages that we do not want to be seen from the lock screen will be hidden. From the list of notifications of applications we can click on the date of “All applications” to filter by notifications blocked, silenced, priority, hidden on the lock screen and without sensitive data to see which applications are showing their notifications in each case.
