25 mayo, 2021

We are approaching the final stretch of the year and almost all brands have uncovered your cards to compete in high-end, but there are still some laggards. The leaks have been in charge of anticipating many of their characteristics and finally today we have known them in their entirety. We are talking about the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro.

The model at hand is the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the most advanced of the brand’s new generation of phablets and which repeats the triple camera formula started by the P20 series. In addition, it launches new features such as a 3D facial recognition or fingerprint reader under the screen for a striking frameless design. We see all the details of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Premium design with integrated fingerprint reader and a large but justified notch

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Let’s start with the exterior appearance, one of the points that has been most cared for in recent times. It is not only a matter of materials (which is also), now the battle is to make the most of the front and the Mate 20 Pro joins two very current trends, one more interesting than the other.

The first and perhaps least interesting is the notch. It is not too deep, but it is quite wide, in the style of iPhone XS. The design of the notch is not the only feature that it shares with the apple mobile, but also what it contains, a three-dimensional facial unlocking system which, in the style of Face ID, projects a pattern of dots on the face to detect features and unlock the terminal. This space also includes a sensor that measures depth of field, an infrared camera and an RGB sensor as part of the selfie camera.

The second element that contributes to that clear front is the fingerprint reader. Last year, the Mate 10 still had the front button, but with the Mate 20 Pro the biometric sensor has been integrated under the glass. There have already been several mobiles such as the Vivo NEX or OPPO R17 Pro that have joined this technology, but the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the first of an international brand that includes it.

With these features, the screen gains even more prominence on the front. Screen that by the way renews its commitment to OLED technology and rises diagonally until it reaches the 6.3 inch, which is said soon. Despite its size, the compaction work allows the dimensions to be very contained.

If we turn the terminal we find a glass back where the module where the camera is placed stands out especially. Perhaps this is the most questionable detail of the design due to the lens arrangement that makes the tablet too square.

The triple camera is consolidated

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Speaking of cameras, this is one of the key aspects of the Mate 20 Pro and that it inherits from the P20 Pro that was presented at the beginning of the year, although with some changes. If the first model opted above all for the zoom, here Huawei eliminates the monochrome sensor and opts for a super wide angle in order to get wider frames.

The Mate 20 Pro camera is made up of three sensors, one of which is 40 megapixels with aperture f / 1.8, one of 20 megapixels with aperture f / 2.2 and finally that of 8 megapixels with f / 2.4 aperture lens. This combination gives more play since it allows both zooming and opening the frame with the wide angle.

In the case of the front camera we have a single 24 megapixel sensor, mounted under an f / 2.0 aperture lens. Both cameras have portrait mode to blur the background, a feature that has become mandatory in any high-end range and is increasingly popular in the mid-range. Huawei too keeps the smart modes that debuted with the P20 Pro and that includes the identifier of scenes and objects as well as the night mode.

High-end features with a nuclear autonomy

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

In its early days, the Mate series combined large displays with mid-range specs, but that’s a thing of the past. Now the Mate bet on the latest of the latest and the Mate 20 Pro is proof of that.

The brain chosen for this terminal is the Kirin 980, Huawei’s chip manufactured with the 7 nm process that was presented in the last edition of IFA. They are accompanied by 6 GB of RAM. With regard to storage, they are 128 GB expandable through external cards, but be careful because it is not a MicroSD, but a NM Card, a faster system and is about the size of a NanoSIM.

Last but not least, the Mate 20 Pro shows its chest in autonomy, another of the points that has traditionally been key in this range. We are talking about a battery of 4,200 mAh capacity with fast charging and wireless charging. In addition, Huawei adds a very interesting function, it is about reverse wireless charging and makes the terminal can become a charging base for other devices such as Huawei Freebuds 2 wireless headphones.

Versions and prices of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro will hit the market in four colors emerald green, the gradient called ‘twilight’, striated textured midnight blue and black. The memory configuration is just one, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The price of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is 1,049 euros and will go on sale on October 16.
