Motorola Moto E5 and Motorola Moto E5 Plus, characteristics, price and technical sheet

23 mayo, 2021

The input range is perhaps one of the categories that is pushing the quality standards of today’s phones the most, setting increasingly remarkable lows. In addition, it is doing it faster and faster: not a year has passed since we explained how the Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus models were presented. And here we are again, with three models: the Moto E5, Moto E5 Plus and Moto E5 Play (the latter only in the United States).

With increasingly shorter life cycles, it is normal to see few changes without much relevance, and this time Motorola has surprised very little. Even so, Lenovo’s more modest range, whose quality-price ratio already left us quite satisfied in its previous edition, looks to continue to be one of the best cheap options on the market. To whet your appetite, but let’s see the technical specifications of the models Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus.

Longer screen and repositioning of the fingerprint reader

One of the biggest complaints we had about the previous models in the Moto E line is that they had exaggerated frames. Thick on the sides, too wide at the bottom … This time, the screen gains prominence. The aspect ratio is enlarged from 16: 9 to 18: 9, which means more screen area, in line with the industry trend, and the frames on the sides decrease a bit.

The fingerprint reader has moved to the previous part, just above a Motorola logo that maintains its usual, prominent position and, this time, with added functionality. Now the logo is not only decorative: also identifies you as a user. Of course, having gained that space, the lower edge continues to be noticeable.

Extended battery … and renewed connector

The Motorola E line already stood out last June for having an incredible battery: 5,000mAh that are repeated in its Moto E5 Plus model and a great prize for the simplest model: it goes from 2,800mAh to 4,000mAh. There is no extension in the largest model and, perhaps, it was not necessary either.

Motorola ensures that this battery will give us an autonomy of 36h non-stop: it will have to be put to the test. In addition, a novelty that must be applauded: the obsolete Micro-USB connection is finally abandoned to switch to the USB-C standard for both, with which the charges will be much more efficient.

The Moto E5 Plus, few changes but enough

The same and spectacular 5,000 mAh battery, the same aperture in the f / 2.0 camera and the same resolution in its sensor, the same commitment to the headphone jack connection … The revolution of the Moto E6 Plus, this time, is In the design.

Although the design continues pretty true to Motorola tradition, the screen that reaches 18: 9 and the fingerprint reader (now on the back, within the same logo of the house) represent the most outstanding changes of the model. It also wears a reflective pattern with waves that look great on its rounded back.

Motorola Moto E5 Plus

Surname Plus of the model, actually, not a more powerful phone. The biggest difference is those extra 1,000 mAh that give it more autonomy, and more weight, than its sister model. They even share a processor and, this time, the 3GB of the Moto E4 Plus model drops to 2GB. The slightly more powerful new Snapdragon processor may make the difference rather cosmetic.

The Moto E5 doubles its autonomy

On the one hand, a battery that grows up to 4,000 mAh, leaving the 2,800 of the Moto E4 model far behind. A forced change, most certainly, due to the increase in screen surface, something that always demands more from the batteries. Also, the resolution now becomes Full HD. On the other hand, a connector updated to the UBS-C standard offers you a faster charge. The Moto E5 promises to rock for hours.

The design of the most humble of the models that Motorola has presented today does not have big surprises. It continues with its commitment to a metallic look, although we will have to wait and see if the material continues to be polycarbonate with metallic paint or we see an unlikely leap in quality towards metal. Of course, the repositioning of the fingerprint reader and a longer screen are noticeable: The Moto E look refreshed and modern.

It is the appropriate phone if your purpose is to use WhatsApp, Instagram and browse a bit, especially if you have no interest in playing Fortnite on your mobile, or other games of similar demand. The processor is a modest Snapdragon 425, enough, above the MediaTek that the previous model had, but no outrageous power.
