options and rates available with Google One

24 mayo, 2021

Google Drive is the google cloud. In it we keep the backup copies of our mobiles, the backup copies of WhatsApp and, of course, all the files that we want to keep safe or that we simply want to synchronize between several devices. By default, Google offers us 15 GB of free storage, but it may fall short for more active users.

The solution is quite simple: pay to access more space. When we do this, we go from Google Drive to Google One. Google One is, let’s say, a platform in which Google centralizes the space occupied by mail (Gmail), files (Google Drive) and Google Photos uploaded in original quality. If you buy storage on Google One, it will be shared between these three services.

And how much does it cost to buy cloud storage with Google One? That is exactly what we are going to see in this article. Below you can access a table with all the plans, their respective prices and all the associated benefits. But before this, let’s start at the beginning.

Do you really need more space?

The first question to ask yourself before purchasing more cloud storage is a simple one: worth? To answer it, you have to know what consumes and what does not consume space in Google Drive. Google explains it on its support website, but here it is simplified.

CONSUME SPACE

DO NOT CONSUME SPACE

  • Most files, whatever their format
  • Items in the trash can.
  • Gmail emails and attachments, including those in SPAM and in the trash.
  • Photos and videos stored in original size in Google Photos.
  • All files created with Google Docs.
  • Files shared with you by another user.
  • Photos and videos stored in high quality in Google Photos.
  • If you use Gmail casually, use Google Photos in free mode, and create documents with Google Docs, you shouldn’t have a problem. The last two items do not consume storage and many emails with large attachments must be received at the end of the day to occupy 15 GB of space. In order to see how much space you currently have, simply access the Google One website.

Now, if you save other types of files or upload the photos in their original size to Google Photos, you may be interested in acquiring more storage. In that case, let’s see the Google One plans and pricing.

As you can see, you have several options. For only 2.99 euros per month or 24.99 euros per year you can access 200 GB of space. Not bad for backing up medium-heavy files. If you want something more extensive, for 9.99 euros per month or 100 euros per year, you can get 2 TB of storage in the cloud. Note that if you want, you can purchase storage in one account and share it with up to five members of your family (that’s six in total).

The more expensive plans can be interesting if you plan to do this, but the truth is that the price for tera it is higher than in the basic plans. To show a button:

    • 2 TB for 9.99 euros per month: about five euros per tera.
    • 10 TB for 99.99 euros per month: about 10 euros per tera.

In other words, it doesn’t pay to share a 10 TB account with six people. Assuming it is shared equally (1.67 TB for each), the price is 16.67 euros per month per user for less than 2 TB (1.67 TB). It is cheaper to buy a 2 TB account for each one, the final price being 60 euros per month (9.99 euros per account). Sticking strictly to the price / space ratio, you have 12 TB in total and pay 40 euros less, even less if you opt for the annual payment.

A 2 TB account is more profitable for each user than sharing an account with more teras

That said, to buy more storage on Google One, you simply have to access the platform’s website, select the plan that best suits your needs and complete the process by entering the number of the card on which you want to be charged the fee. Once the payment is completed, your account space will automatically increase and you will be able to access it.
