The Warzone nuclear event is accelerating. There are new map leaks, you can now buy Foresight from Warzone’s missile silo containment monitors and more now that they’re active, and while Warzone’s nuke is a bit far away, it seems like it’s all starting to happen.
Some of the teasing seems to be random. There is an exploding map easter egg that has been activating for some people. The messages about explosions in parts of the map and the level of the containment protocol have finally been raised. That’s some of the Call of Duty blog updates that come every time the zombies move to a new location. For years the ‘Containment Protocol Level’ remained the same for every report, but now it has been raised and with it the monitors inside the missile silos have been activated. As a result, you can now buy Forsight and other powerful killstreaks and other equipment.
It’s all growing evidence that the Warzone nuclear event start time is approaching and the long-rumored new map in the Cold War Ural Mountains will take over. Okay, it’s been a rumor pretty much since the game was released, but now, with things actually happening in the game and suggestions from Activision, it seems like the nuclear Warzone event will finally appear and usher in an entirely new map for Call of Duty Warzone. This is what we know.

When is the Warzone nuclear event start time?
Currently, everything points to the date of the Warzone nuclear event being April 21 or 22 or around that date, which is when the Season 2 Battle Pass ends and Warzone season 3 should begin. The beginning of season 2 also added some specifically named nuclear missiles to the map, and there are currently zombie outbreaks that are moving to different locations like Shipwreck, Prison, and Hospital. While there is no official announcement of times or dates, there is very little chance that current events will continue into a new season.
An interesting addition to all of this is that the Call of Duty blog is currently monitoring these outbreaks with messages about the containment protocol level that will not be raised as the outbreaks are expected to be contained in the southern regions of the map currently. affected. What stands out is the use of the same 0.5% skull image that you can find next to the new Warzone missile silos. You can see that in the image above, while this is what Activision has been using in blog posts about zombie locations:
Sounds like a lot, we could see things escalate if the zombies move to a new location outside of the current area of the map. The percentage certainly looks like an alert level related to the infection count and the zombies that appear on the map. If we see the undead in a new area and 05% go up, then we know things are getting closer.
Warzone Nuclear Event Easter Egg
Does the Easter egg give a hint of what is to come for Verdansk? pic.twitter.com/oKmJS7lZLtMarch 20, 2021
This explosive map is being reported by multiple players, but it doesn’t seem like everyone is getting it. It can be found in the old TV station bunker that originally appeared as part of the pre-launch preview of the Cold War. Now, like most Warzone bunkers, it is fully open without the need for a code or access card. There is nothing new there – the map, notes, photos, and everything else has been there since it appeared, but the map now seems to explode for some people looking at it. However, we have visited the map several times and practically spent an entire game in the room waiting for something to happen. If we hadn’t seen several different videos that apparently show that it happened, we would have considered it false.
What will happen at the Warzone Nuke event?
Spoilers: nuclear weapons. For what seems like forever, the leaks have pointed to a nuclear bomb, or nukes, leveling Verdansk and clearing the way for a new map. As part of Season 2, three highly suspicious Warzone missile silos have appeared, while several other Warzone bunkers have been shut down. The second season also started with zombies actually appearing on the Verdansk map via the Vodianoy shipwreck, before moving to the prison, hospital, etc.
While there have been a lot of rumors, there are some official things to back it up. In appreciation of the community for the first year, Activision has hinted at something very final in the game, mentioning a “reckoning” for Verdansk. The same message also mentions that the ship is shedding its “otherworldly cargo” as the players “desperately try to contain this new threat.” The message concludes that “Warzone may have to prepare for a threat never seen before in Verdansk.”
The appearance of actual zombies in the game seems to confirm the long-held belief that zombies would somehow invade the map, that it would be bombarded to destroy them. In addition to the official messages, some recently extracted audios seem to confirm this now, as well as give us an idea of what the final event will entail.
Leaked audio files for the Nuke event. It seems that Verdansk is gone forever from r / CODWarzone
The key phrases in the audio are these:
- “Stay alert, you are approaching a plague area.”
- “This is our last broadcast.”
- “Verdansk is lost, finish it.”
- “All teams must leave immediately, this is the final hour.”
- “Avoid the infected at all costs, do not become a zombie.”
- “We can’t lose Verdansk, find those damn zombies.”
- “Extraction canceled, nuclear entry to Verdansk. You are in your own soldier ”.
It looks like these quotes could be part of a Warzone nuclear event to change the map, and also introduce a rumored plague mode in which players attempt to defeat an outbreak of zombies to exfiltrate, fail, and a nuke is called out. The quotes support a game mode, the conversation about the loss of Verdansk, and the “final hour” suggest that the first Plague mode game will be a guaranteed flop – a major zombie event that will see players battling zombies in Verdasnk sooner. that everything is destroyed.
The line “don’t become a zombie” also suggests that zombies will convert players rather than kill them. It remains to be seen if this could be another Zombie Royale mode like the one we saw on Halloween, although the conversation about plague zones suggests that we could see something different.
How will the nuclear event change the Warzone map?
Verdanks will be gone, that seems to be the main play of the nuclear event. The Modern Warfare-based Infinity Ward map you can see above will be erased and replaced with something from Cold War developer Treyarch. The main belief at the moment is that the new Warzone map will have a 1980s theme and will be set in the Cold War Ural Mountains. That location has already appeared across some of the larger-scale maps featured in Cold War’s Fireteam and Outbreak modes. Even more interesting, the Ruka map from the Cold War Fireteam has the filename “wz_forest”, which suggests it could be part of a larger map.
One of the most controversial rumors and a bit more is that this new map could house 250 players. It’s not entirely clear where that figure came from, but some have taken the fact that the new map has more POIs as proof that it is built for a greater number of players. Warzone has had a 200-player mode before so it’s not out of the question. Although many people think that the player count is already quite high.
