technical data sheet of characteristics and price

24 mayo, 2021

Google finally presents the new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Two mobiles that have seen their characteristics leaked on numerous occasions before the presentation. We are before most up-to-date Android smartphones of the moment, with Android 9 Pie pre-installed and the latest Google technology in terms of mobile software and artificial intelligence.

Last year’s Pixel 2 XL stood out especially for its excellent camera, however the quality of the OLED screen was not up to par. This year Google is betting on two terminals whose characteristics are quite similar. We will have to wait for the corresponding analyzes, but these Pixel 3 XL are expected to at least solve the issue of the screen and continue to take a step forward in photography and performance.

A model with a screen in 18: 9 format for those looking for a compact mobile and another model, the Pixel 3 XL for those who want a large screen and with OLED technology. Two Google Pixels with identical internal specs and differentiated mainly by their size and screen. Let’s see what Google offers us this year with its most important mobiles.

The ‘notch’ points to the traditional design of the Pixel range

Pixel

The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have a similar design to the previous generation. The fingerprint reader is located at the back, we have front speakers and we have an aluminum body, with a glass part. The single rear camera is still positioned in the rear left corner and there are no big surprises compared to what is already known.

Pixel 2 XL after a month of use: I fell in love with the camera, the screen broke my heart

The Pixel 3 model has a screen of 5.5 inch with a FullHD + resolution in 18: 9 format. A size well below most flagships, which directly go up from six inches. For those looking for a manageable high-end, this Pixel 3 is a great option.

While the Google Pixel 3 becomes an excellent option for those looking for a compact high-end, the Pixel 3 XL arrives with a new 6.3-inch QuadHD + OLED screen and a generous ‘notch’.

The Google Pixel 3 XL looks different. A model that bets on a 6.3-inch OLED panel with QuadHD + resolution. A much more generous screen and where we do have the presence of a gigantic ‘notch’. The justification is found by the double front camera bet, but the truth is that of all the notches seen so far, the one on this Pixel is the most striking.

Pixel

Another outstanding element at the design level is the incorporation of Gorilla Glass 5 for scratch resistance and IP68 water resistance to be able to get them wet eventually or take them to the pool. Like last year, we do not have a 3.5mm jack but we do have USB Type-C, NFC and squeezable edges. A function known as ‘Active Edge’ that will allow us to directly open Google Assistant in a simple way.

Qualcomm processor, wireless charging and 4GB of RAM memory

Pixel 3

Inside the new Pixel 3 we find the popular processor Snapdragon 845, a chipset that most of the flagships of 2018 have incorporated. Together with him, they accompany us 4GB of RAM. A fair amount for a high-end.

As is usual in Google mobiles, we do not have a microSD slot but we do have storage that starts at 64GB and reaches up to 128GB. At the security level, it is interesting to have the new Titan M chip, a processor dedicated to improving mobile security and unlocking.

Regarding the battery, the Pixel 3 incorporates 2,915 mAh Of battery. Meanwhile, the Pixel 3 XL comes with 3,450 mAh, slightly less than the 3,520 mAh that the Pixel 2 XL had. We do not have an ultra-fast charging system like those of Huawei or Oppo, but we do have an 18W charger.

The Pixel 3 are also compatible with wireless charging thanks to their glass back. For those interested, we have available the Pixel Stand, a base compatible with the Qi standard and connected to the phone itself with a price of 79 euros.

Dual camera reaches the front

Photo Black

For the Pixel 3 we expected the incorporation of the double camera on the back. It has been one of the trends of the year and even many already bet directly on three cameras. But Google follows its own pace and offers us a rear sensor quite similar to last year.

So are the cameras of the Google Pixel 3: a lot of AI, super zoom and night mode

Both in the standard model and in the XL we have the same 12.2 megapixel sensor, with an f / 1.8 aperture lens and 1.4µm pixels. For video recording we have optical image stabilization and recording up to 4K at 30fps. These are not very surprising specs, but the work is in the new Pixel Visual Core, Google’s dedicated chipset to improve image algorithms and improve sharpness.

Among the improvements of this rear camera we have the Intelligent Capture mode to detect smiles and not closed eyes, where by means of AI you can select the best shot from a burst. In addition to that, comes the Superzoom function, a tool normally reserved for secondary cameras but that the Pixel 3 tries to reproduce using algorithms. We also have the ‘Night Sight’ function, for night vision to be able to take vivid photos without flash in dark environments.

Where there are surprises is in the front camera. Here the portrait mode is more relevant and that is why we bet with a dual 8 megapixel front camera with an f / 2.2 aperture lens in both. In this case we have group selfies with an angle of up to 97 degrees.

At the software level, the Pixel 3 camera can be shot without hands when detecting certain expressions, we can change the blur effect once the image is made and we will find new stickers in the new Playground mode.

Android 9 Pie with improvements to Google Lens, Photos and free subscriptions

Photos

Taking advantage of the arrival of the Google Pixel 3, the North American manufacturer has presented some changes to the Pixel Launcher. Now we have the search bar at the bottom. Android 9 Pie is the version of the basic built-in operating system and in all probability these new Pixel 3 are the first models to receive any new updates from now on and until his successors arrive.

Pixel 3 users will also receive six months of Youtube Music for free, as long as they have not been registered before and activate it before the end of 2018. If what we are looking for is online storage, Pixel 3 users will have unlimited space in original quality until January 21, 2022.
