The new preview of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (in its build 16251) brings several interesting news. Among them, that Android users can connect their device to the PC to, for now, continue consulting the web you are browsing. It’s an option that will also be coming to iOS soon, according to Microsoft.
There is also news with Cortana, Edge and system restart.
WINDOWS 10: 9 VERY USEFUL and LITTLE KNOWN TRICKS
Windows wants Android and iOS
With a Windows Phone / Mobile missing in action, Microsoft has been warning for a few months that among its plans is bring Android and iOS users closer together to your desktop operating system. Since they cannot achieve the Continuum with your different versions of the operating system, at least it can with those of Google and Apple.
The first step in this approach has come with this new build. The main idea is that we can navigate on the same page from the smartphone and from the PC (cross-device web-browsing). To enable this new option (remember, you have to be an Insider to test it), you have to go from your Android to Settings -> Phone to connect your smartphone to the PC. Paradoxically, you will receive an SMS inviting you to install Microsoft Apps.
Once that is done, when you are consulting a website from your smartphone’s browser, click on the share option and select “Follow on PC”. It will ask you to enter your Microsoft account information, then we click “Follow now” and the web will open on your PC. If you click “Follow later”, the web will be displayed in the Windows 10 activity center.
As we said, it will be an option that will also come to iOS, so it is one more confirmation of the direction that Microsoft is taking to “get along” with Google and Apple operating systems.
For some searches, Cortana will no longer open the browser, but will show you the results directly. For now it works with the responses of Cortana and Bing: movies, weather, flights, the stock market …
On the other hand, now you can ask Cortana by voice to restart, shut down, end the session or lock your computer, although it is a function only available in English at the moment. For the curious, these are the commands:
- Hey Cortana, restart PC.
- Hey Cortana, turn off PC.
- Hey Cortana, sign out.
- Hey Cortana, lock PC.
In some of them you will have to confirm it by saying “Yes” to execute the order.
- Faster restarts and shutdowns. Now, Windows can use your startup data to prepare your computer after an update or restart.
- Edge no longer automatically resizes webs when in tablet mode.
- The Game Mode is by default included in some games, although it will be something available to some users.
