I pick up in case the flies and at the other end I discover the voice of a commercial who is sure that he will change my life with his offer. What if i go to save money expanding my telephone contract, which if it offers me subscribe to your newspaperWhat if I should increase my contribution to your NGO …
Although very occasionally some of these calls are relevant and useful, the vast majority are a waste of time that forces you to master the subtle nuance between being sharp but polite or just be rude and hang up. TrueCaller is the application that saves you from having to think about this type of subtlety because, directly, you will stop receiving those calls or you will be able to know who is calling you before picking up.
How Truecaller works
Once installed, the application will ask you for many permissions. TrueCaller requires access to your contact list, permission for make and manage calls phone number and permission to send and view SMS messages. Accept them all to be able to use it without limitations.
The second step of the process is provide your number of phone. They will make a call that you do not need to answer (unless you want to talk to a robot). TrueCaller will confirm your number through that call or by a code that will send you by SMS.
True Caller will propose you to be your default application to make calls or send messages, but it is not necessary to do so. With its operation in the background you have more than enough for the application put name to those unfamiliar phones or lock the ones you decide.
On iOSIn addition, you must give TrueCaller permissions to manage the blocking and identification of calls in Phone -> Block and Caller ID and the messages in Messages -> Unknown and Junk.
From here, when you receive a call from a phone that you do not know, TrueCaller will check your phonebook to show you the name behind of that number. Then you can add it to your blocked phone list so it won’t even interrupt you next time. Works in the same way for messages.
Other cool features of TrueCaller
TrueCaller was born in 2009 as a simple caller id that blocked the spam, but it has ended up becoming a full service that replace your call and message app, if you give it the corresponding permissions, and it includes a payment service.
Over time TrueCaller has introduced very cool new features:
- Phone number scanner: Allows you to search and scan, with the camera, a phone number that you see printed anywhere. It is very fast and accurate in its search and finds you who is behind of each number.
- Flash messages: Your message service allows you send your location, share emojis and your status with your friends
- Availability of friends: If your friends also have TrueCaller installed you can see exactly when they are available and when not, either because they are making another call or they are without coverage.
- Backup copy: It is possible to make a backup copy in your Google Drive of your call history, contacts and settings, to keep track of the way you use TrueCaller to other devices that you use.
- Professional version: With its professional mode, after paying € 1.99 per month or € 17.99 per year, you stop receiving ads, your profile gets the Pro badge that distinguishes you from the rest of users and offers you 30 contact requests per month (to get the personal number of others TrueCaller users using its built-in search.
The more users, the more reliability
Those of TrueCaller claim to accumulate more than 250 million users with the downloaded application and recently celebrated the milestone of reaching the 100 million users daily assets.
To have a good user base it is important for any successful application, but in TrueCaller it is directly indispensable: when this app is installed it reads, with your permission, all the contacts in the phone’s phonebook and integrates them into its database. Currently, this database has data with 3,000 million numbers phone number that identifies for you.
When multiple people associate a name with a specific number, TrueCaller leaves it noted for other users. The same happens when several people decide tag as spam or block a phone number from the app: before going off-hook, the next user will know who is the caller even if you don’t have the number on your agenda.
A simple and well-solved idea
The expansion of phone use Mobile in today’s society (especially in Spain, where the ratio is 109 mobiles per 100 inhabitants) has also brought with it the logical growth of telemarketing techniques. A system highly invasive which is generally abhorred.
The idea of founding TrueCaller came from a need very simple: to be able to identify who is hiding behind a call or unidentified message and avoid phone spam. To return to give the initiative to the mobile user so that decide freely who to allow communication with him. TrueCaller is a very good application that precisely returns that right of free choice.
In any case, and as we know very well, all power comes with a responsibility. TrueCaller amasses a lot of permissions and accumulates a lot contact information (phone numbers associated with people). You have the responsibility to manage this data with the maximum good sense and sensitivity.
I am surprised that the Pro version can allow contact with people who they have never offered you their number confidently and worrying about rumors that its co-founder and CEO, Alan Mamedi, has had to step out on occasion. We’ll be alert.
