While there are many cruises out there, there is only one brand that is synonymous with the notion: Harley davidson. Regardless of age, cruiser bikes are almost always the choice for anyone who prefers long distance cycling.
Being a part of the motorcycle racing fraternity for years, the king of cruisers has branched out into multiple genres. Although the brand is struggling with sales, there is no denying the fact that they are one of the true American thoroughbreds still on the market. The Harley lineup has a variety of motorcycles ranging from the smallest Sportster to the largest Softails and the Dyna series in between. Most newbies tend to view Harley’s line of deals as pretty much the same thing. Well, it isn’t and we’ve decided to go ahead and clear up the confusion.

An overview of the Harley line
The modern motorcycles of the Harley brand are divided into 7 categories, namely; Touring, Softail, Dyna, Sportster, V-Rod, Street and LiveWire. Models are classified based on differences in their chassis, engine, and suspension.
Harley’s Touring lineup consists of the Road King, Road Glide, Street Glide, and Electra Glide. Generally referred to as “sideboards” or “baggers,” Touring models use high-displacement two-cylinder engines with large diameter telescopic forks. Softail Harleys have a hidden rear suspension under the seat to look like rigid helicopters from the 1960s. The lineup consists of Fat Boy, Softail Deluxe, Heritage Softail, Classic, Softail Slim and Breakout. These large twin motorcycles capitalize on Harley’s strong heritage value and can be characterized by their “Heritage” styling.
Dyna series include Super Glide, Super Glide Custom, Street Bob, Low Rider, and Fat Bob. Traditionally, the Dyna series used lower capacity cufflinks and a rubber-mounted motor to isolate vibration. However, Harley discontinued the line in 2017 and the Dyna motorcycle line has been under the Softail family ever since. The Sportster family consists of the Superlow, Iron 883, Superlow Custom, Forty-eight, Seventy-two and Roadster. Sportsters were conceived as racing motorcycles that were smaller and lighter than other Harley models, contemporary Sportsters use 883cc or 1200cc engines and are still largely similar in appearance.
The V-Rod was Harley’s muscle bike and was discontinued in 2017, the lineup had V-Rod, Night Rod, V-Rod Muscle, and Street Rod. The Street family of motorcycles consisted of the Street 750 and the Street 500. The platform was designed to appeal to younger riders looking for a lighter motorcycle at a more affordable price. LiveWire is part of Harley’s efforts to contribute to a greener tomorrow. Being an exclusively electric motorcycle, it deviated from Harley’s history of using V-twin and is targeting a completely different customer base.
Summary: Harley Davidson Fat Bob Vs Fat Boy
The Fat Boy is part of the Harley Softail family and has been a favorite with enthusiasts. The big bike uses its signature Milwaukee V-twin that displaces 1,868 cc and produces 119 pound-feet of torque. While the chassis received a much-needed update in 2018, the core spirit of the Softail family still remains intact. You get huge 240-section rear tires and the sturdiest front forks common to larger Harleys. The updated Harley has upgraded LED headlights and brakes, but still maintains the signature solid cast wheels and running boards.
The Fat Bob, currently under the Softail badge, was released as part of the Dyna series and displayed impressive levels of athleticism never before seen on a Harley. The Fat Bob uses the same Milwaukee 114 seen on the Fat Boy but has dynamic chassis geometry. The Fat Bob appeals more to younger buyers and feels a lot more modern with unconventional Harley bits all over it.
